Heaton’s local non-league football team, Heaton Stannington FC will head back to the home of Newcastle United, St James’ Park, to defend the Northumberland Senior Cup.
It comes after a 5-1 win against Newcastle University in the semi-final which took place in front of 436 fans on Wednesday 15th April 2026.
Heaton Stan took home the trophy last season by winning a dramatic penalty shoot-out after they played out a 0-0 draw with Morpeth Town, with 3,841 fans in attendance. The run to silverware was a particularly memorable one, with The Stan successfully dispatching Newcastle United U21s 3-0 in the semi-finals as well as victories over Blyth Town and Whitley Bay in the earlier rounds.
As holders of the cup, they entered this years’ competition at the Quarter Final stage where they once again came out on top in a penalty shoot-out – this time against Blyth Town after a 1-1 draw. That set up the semi-final against Newcastle Uni, where despite a shaky start going a goal down, they kept their heads and their quality shone through in the end with a 5 goal reply.
Heaton Stannington’s neighbours, Newcastle Benfield FC take on Whitley Bay FC in the second semi-final on Tuesday 21st April.
The Newcastle Flooring Northumberland FA Senior Cup Final will take place at St James’ Park on Tuesday 5th May, with kick-off at 7.30pm – it would be great for a good turn-out from across Heaton and beyond to support the Stan as they look for back-to-back cup wins.
